Many of you likely know the story of how we met, but for those of you who don’t here’s a little glimpse into how it all happened:

Despite knowing each other for many years prior to dating, it took them some time to realize that there was something more than just a friendship between them. Let’s go WAY back for just a moment. The irony of their story is that they probably crossed paths when they were young kids, likely for the first time in elementary school. Despite Caroline and her family living in Austin and Alec and his family living in Dallas, one of Alec’s best friends growing up, Will Whitmire, is actually Caroline’s cousin! Will and Alec played on many of the same sports teams growing up and Caroline remembers trips to Dallas to watch Will play. Fast forwarding to their college years, Caroline went to Baylor University in Waco, TX and Alec went to Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. Despite neither of them remembering the first time they officially met, they remember frequently running into each other at date events and parties because of their close mutual friends. Moving on to post-graduate life, they continued to run into each other now and then. In April 2023, when they were at a mutual friend’s wedding Alec was not so casually asked what his thoughts were about Caroline by one of her friends. They encouraged him to think about asking her out, to which he responded that he had already been thinking about it. That next week, uneasy about the answer he would get, he decided to call Caroline and ask her on a date in Austin. The only problem…the date had to wait a month until Alec moved back to Dallas. Their first date was in Austin at Fresa’s where the conversation came easy and the nerves were nowhere to be found. They started “officially” dating a few months later and both of them had a sense that this relationship had the potential to go the distance. In April of 2024, Caroline made the tough decision to move to Fort Worth, TX, the city Alec was scheduled to start a job in that June. Both of them started working at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, and they enjoyed the convenience of actually getting to date while living in the same city. At some point in their discussions about marriage, Alec told Caroline that a proposal would likely happen sometime in the Spring, knowing full well that he intended to do it earlier in order to surprise her. On the weekend of January 18th, Caroline walked into Sammie’s Italian restaurant expecting to meet her family for dinner and she was shocked to pull back the curtain and find Alec standing in the private wine room, ring in hand, ready to get down on one knee. Despite tears in his eyes and forgetting everything he had planned to say, he managed to get out the words “will you marry me?” and Caroline, without hesitation, responded with the easiest “yes!” of her life. As if the ring wasn’t a surprise enough, both of their families came bounding into the room from their nearby hiding spot and they enjoyed their first meal as one big group. As for the rest of their story, that part still needs to be written! Let’s party!
